DIY: Bamboo Console Table

Great "moving sale" ad on Craigslist that ran multiple pictures of vintage 60's furniture.  I don't need much else, and no one I knew needed anything in the pictures, but I still dropped by just to make sure.....found this vintage console and matching stools for pennies and decided I had to have it.  Here is said console behind my sofa:

Two things needed here....paint and fabric.  The hard part is picking the colors.....need to dis-assemble stools and check that I can cover cushions myself:

Hubs had to help me find the right screw driver head to get the screws out that were holding the stool base and cushion together

mission accomplished....

think I can do this myself

multiple contenders, but settled on this Suzani from Childress.....now on to making the new cushions!

anyone else feel powerful using a heavy duty staple gun? ;)

Get 'er done

THE BEST spray paint ever.   It's behind the "cage" at Michaels, and worth the 15 minute wait until someone unlocks it.  Goes on smooth and shiny. 

My dog, Drake, thinks I'm nuts.  He kept groaning at the smell of the spray paint.  Was excited to see this in Glossy black, but then felt unsure.....

After walking by this table for one day, I'm thinking maybe I should have painted it grey.  I might head back to the "paint cage" at Michael's and try their charcoal grey color.  The contrast with the glossy black is almost too drastic for me......but still love how different this piece looks!!

Hall Tree Paiting

Remember this find from Craiglist?   Well, Henry and I painted it.  3 Cans of Rustoleum White Laquer, and we were in business.  Not sure who had more fun, me or Henry.  :)

Mermaid

So, I DIY'd.  Yes, it is funky, and no, hubs hasn't seen it yet.  Tomorrow I'll make a mad dash to find a 24x36 frame to finish it out and will post the final product.  I would LOVE a mirrored frame....will have to go on the hunt.  Scroll down for pics of my "mermaid" while in the works!

The blog post from Babble said to cut shiny poster board into circles, then spray paint gold.  While at Michaels, I went exploring in the scrap booking aisle and found lots of lovely card stock in various colors and lusters.....including a shiny gold.  So, for $0.49 a card (which yielded about 2 rows of "scales"), I had immediate colors to work with.  Above was my original plan....tracing my Wrights Silver polish container as the perfect circle size. 

ahhhhh......the magic of an extra large punch.  About 2 pages into my circle tracing and cutting, I realized this was going to take a while.  Thanks to my very creative friends at Trio Design Studio, and a lovely glass of Cabernet, my brain became unfrozen and I heeded their advice to use a PUNCH.  Look at all the fun colors to play with! 

After playing around with all the fun colors, I decided on a lime green and gold combination.  Using Fabri-tac glue, I mounted the circles onto a 24x36 foam poster board making the "scales" then trimmed the edges.  The key to making it look even more "scaly" and textured is to lightly flip up the scales.

Sputnik Bliss

I've got glue on my fingers and gold paint on my clothes, but friends we are at the very last inch before the finish line! Only thing left to do is have it installed. Here she goes:

STEP 1 & 2 - trimmed down florets to 2.5 inches around. Cut straws top to bottom and slipped them around the stems of the chandelier.....the stems were very thin and the straws help to make the chandelier more substantial.

Used Rustoleum Metallic spray in brass finish to paint all florets and stems.

Used clear Fabric-Tac glue to attach the amuse bouche plates

After snapping the florets to each "wand", they very easily snap into the base unit. The light bulb goes right in the middle. Once installed, I'll post a picture of it lit:)
